The Lost Art of Perseverance
Where are the persevering ones? Have we forgotten what Jesus taught in the Gospels?
Matthew 25:23 NIV His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Master's happiness!'
Faithful over a few things comes with a great reward in the kingdom of God. The flip side this ~~ the lack of faithfulness means you can not be trusted. Perseverance is the ability to remain faithful for the duration.
We live such short sited lives in the twenty-first century. “New” has such a short life span in this brave new world. Nothing seems to last in this replaceable market place. And what really scares me is that many have placed “church” in this arena of life. When church becomes old and familiar and does not meet up to ones expectation it is time to find the “New” again. So every few years or months, I guess it depends on your emotional cycle of routine or tolerance, there is a change in the making. Things are boring and routine and since we can’t divorce our wives and stay respectable in the believing community we divorce the believers we worship with to keep our spiritual life exciting and new. The sad part is this all happens at the expense of our faithfulness. When faithfulness is derailed in ones life so are future blessings and the happiness of the Master.
So what about the routines of life? You know ~~ the things you have to do everyday because of life’s responsibilities that have fallen your way. Those little boring acts of mundane and insignificant details, well, I have found they build character. We need to remember it is a character of trustworthiness that God will entrust with greater responsibilities.
Never forget, small acts of faithfulness are where the great things of God are birthed. Maybe it is time to put
Perseverance
back into the Christian experience and make our heavenly Father happy!
